Historical Landmark Building: The Welfare Building was constructed in 1906 as a recreation facility for the workers of the Glazier Stove Co. It featured a swimming pool, billiard hall, basketball court, theatre and a reading room.

The Purple Rose Theatre Company is a dream realized by actor and Chelsea native Jeff Daniels. Mr. Daniels wanted a professional theatre company located in middle America which also focused its plays on Middle America and offered opportunities for local actors, directors, designers and playwrights.

George P. Glazier Memorial Building

In 1901 Frank Glazier, founder of the Glazier Stove Works, constructed this Beaux-Arts masterpiece in honor of his father, a Chelsea pioneer in banking. Glazier commissioned noted architect Claire Allen to design the building for the Chelsea Savings Bank. It is clad in Bedford limestone and rock-faced granite laid by George Hindelang. Two limestone columns support the massive entablature and terracotta tile roof.
